VESTAL, N.Y. -- Some Binghamton University engineering and science students have a new home.

The new extension of the Thomas J. Watson School is part of the University's Innovative Technologies Complex across the street from BU's main campus. The $66 million facility features state-of-the-art research space, as well as suites for new business startups. But faculty says it's the benefits to students that will be the highlight of the new facility.

"The most important aspect of this building is that it will enhance the quality of the academic mission that our students will take part in. This is a significant asset to our students whether they are freshmen or they are Ph.D. students or somewhere along that continuum," said Dr. Krishnaswamie Srihari, Dean of the Thomas J. Watson School.

The construction of the building provided an estimated $112 million in local economic impact and supported more than 1,500 jobs in the region.
