Man accused of shooting infant appears in court
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Authorities say they need more evidence to link a Syracuse man to the gun used in a gang-related shooting that killed an infant.
Saquan Evans, 21, has been accused of killing 20-month-old Rashad Walker Jr. during a drive-by shooting on Coolidge Avenue back in November. Officials agreed in court Friday to collect a saliva sample from Evans for DNA testing. Authorities want to see there's a match to DNA found on a handgun recovered four hours after the shooting.
Police say the toddler's father, Rashad Walker Sr., was the intended target because he is a member of the 110 Gang.
Evans was wearing an ankle bracelet at the time of that shooting, which tied him to the scene.
