LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition following a motorcycle versus car crash in Lewis County. State Police say two vehicles traveling on State Route 12 in the Town of Leyden were forced to slow down for several deer in the road.

A motorcycle driven by Steven Sergent was unable to stop, and hit the back of the vehicle in front of him. He as well as his passenger, Mary Sergent, was ejected from the motorcycle. They were taken to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica.

Steven was later pronounced dead from his injuries. Mary is in critical condition.

The crash is still under investigation.
