UNITED STATES -- The United States Department of Agriculture is introducing changes to help farmers through the drought hitting much of the nation this summer.

In addition to funds and any technical help to farmers, the USDA says it will allow many farmers to use conserved areas in order to cultivate hay and graze animals.

The organization is also calling for crop insurers to temporarily hold off putting interest rates on missed payments.

According to the USDA website, counties in more than half the states in the U.S. have been declared disaster areas due to the ongoing droughts.
