NEW YORK STATE -- The 23rd Congressional District remains a two-man race for the republican nomination. Assemblyman Will Barclay has announced he will not run for the seat.

Barclay currently represents the 124th Assembly District, which covers parts of Oswego and Onondaga counties. He says the demands on his time in the State Capitol were just too great for him to mount an extensive campaign.

"I had to make a decision. Either I had to resign from the Assembly, or stay in and not run for Congress. I didn't think it was necessarily really fair to the constituents that I represent now to resign to do that, at this time, particularly this year, because it's such a tough budget year," Barclay said.

With Barclay out of the running for the 23rd District, 2009 candidate Doug Hoffman and Watertown Businessman Matt Doheny are the likely contenders for the GOP nomination.

The winner will oppose democrat incumbent Bill Owens.
