SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Direct flights to Toronto two times a day. Air Canada made its first flight in and out of Syracuse's Hancock International Airport Monday.
The 18 passenger plane takes just one hour to fly to Toronto. Before, travelers had to fly to New York City or Newark and catch a connecting flight to Canada.
The city says adding this flight will open up all kinds of options for travelers out of Syracuse.
Toronto's Pearson International Airport is a hub in Canada for connecting flights to destinations all over the world.
This is just the first in a series of improvements planned for Hancock Airport.
"We are improving the structure of the airport. We have bonding in place to improve that, to make it a LEED certified building, one of the first of its kind. So we think there is only good news. We're working very hard to improve transportation with the ultimate to have lower costs and lower ticket prices through Syracuse," said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner.
Mayor Miner says the city is aggressively searching out other airlines as well.
