SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A vigil in Syracuse marked what would have been the second birthday of a toddler who was killed during a shootout in the city's southside.
Rashaad Walker Jr. was shot on Coolridge Avenue in November while sitting in his parent's car. Police believe the shooter was aiming for Rashaad's father.
Wednesday night, Walker's family put up a billboard in his memory and with the vigil on his birthday, those in the southside community say they want to send a clear message: To stop the gun violence.
"We are here trying to make a difference, trying to put the billboard up so people can look at that and if we can just save one, we did the job. If we can just save one," said Syracuse resident Arthur Huddleston.
Baby Rashaad was just 20 months old when he died. Saquan Evans, 21, has been charged with his murder.
