ALBANY, N.Y. -- There's some mixed news for Governor Paterson as a new poll shows Paterson's favorability has gone up slightly, but it also shows New Yorkers still want someone else for governor next year.

According to the poll from the Siena Research Institute, in a potential primary against Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Paterson trails Cuomo by nearly 60 percentage points.

If Paterson goes up against former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the general election, Giuliani is ahead by more than 20 points.

The governor also trails former Congressman Rick Lazio by a few points.

But Paterson's favorability has gone up from 27 percent in October to 33 percent now.

Steve Greenberg of the Siena Research Institute said, "We are 10 months away from the primary. The governor's numbers have been at near records lows for 10 months now. He's got a lot of work to do and a lot of accomplishments to make happen if he's going to turn how he's viewed by voters around."

The poll also found out of 26 potential candidates for statewide office next year, only Cuomo and Senator Chuck Schumer on the Democratic side and Giuliani and former Governor George Pataki on the Republican side have favorability ratings over 50 percent.
