CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hundreds of Obama supporters lined up at campaign offices Thursday in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh where they were among the first to get credentials for next month's DNC.

"I'm just excited about the opportunity to be here," said volunteer Crystal Gaines.

"I imagine that I'm going to get teary. It will be a very emotional moment time for me because I am so dedicated to his re-election," said volunteer Sue Gamelin.

Volunteer hours earned them a spot to hear president Obama's acceptance speech on Sept. 6. It's part of the 931 Program.

"I did phone banks, I did voter registration and I will probably do some more after this," said volunteer Dinah Bourdon.

As a part of the program each person completed at least nine hours of volunteer work for three shifts, earning them one ticket to hear the president's historic speech.

"There wasn't an incentive four years ago so I figured I did it back then and I figured I could do it again now and go to something that is going to be history," said Bourdon.

Leaders say the effort shows the strong support President Obama still has in the Tar Heel state.

"This shows you the kind of enthusiasm this president has built and he's earned it through the hard work he's done," said Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx.

"I think it really shows that this is a grassroots campaign and every vote counts and people one by one can make a difference and that's what it's going to take," said Sen. Kay Hagan.

Organizing for America will hand out additional credentials to the president's acceptance speech this Saturday.
