*Head to Turningstone Resort off the thruway in Verona, N.Y. for a huge village all made of gingerbread! 1000 hours of time have been devoted to this annual lobby looker, free to see and up through the first of the new year.
*A free light display in Niagara Falls, Canada is a major attraction this time of year. The 'Winter Festival of Lights' is a leisure drive along the Niagara Parkway into Dufferin Park to see hundreds of illuminated holiday displays including Disney characters. Free to see but a donation at the end of the ride is appreciated. Cross the Rainbow bridge into Canada to the parkway. Don't forget your passport or enhanced drivers license. Under age 16 require a birth certificate.
*In Lewiston, N.Y., the 'Festival of Lights' at the Lady of Fatima Shrine is an enormous religious light display, free to see every night from 5pm to 9pm.
