They're not for everyone, they can be complicated to maneuver…but so-called hardcore games are impossible to leave out of any E3 coverage. For real gamers, these are the real draw. Every year, one of the primary battles for eyes has been among a handful of games concerning the battlefield itself. Among them, the Battlefield franchise, which is launching Battlefield 3 Premium, Medal of Honor coming out with Warfighter, throw in a Tom Clancy Splinter Cell, the upcoming Blacklist, and of course round it all out with Call of Duty, landing at E3 with Black Ops 2.

“The technology now that you can feel like you're walking in rooms right, you can see the environment, you can see everything it's about, there's really something where you connect,” said Jay Puryear, Treyarch Studios.

Hardcore games don't necessarily have to be gruesome, and they don't necessarily have to include aliens trying to eat your flesh off. A lot of them are titles that most people would probably recognize.

Lara Croft can probably qualify as a household name, maybe because the popular Tomb Raider video game was made into a movie starring Angelina Jolie. Well, developers say the latest game in the popular franchise, which will simply be called Tomb Raider, will be what they're calling a reboot.

“This time we're delivering it through a bit of a mature theme. We really want this to be a grounded, relatable Lara Croft and we're taking her through an extreme ordeal that starts to forge her into the Tomb Raider she's become,” said Noah Hughes, Square Enix.

And Star Wars is no doubt a name you recognize. Developers of Star Wars 1313 can't tell us much about the upcoming title.

“It's the first mature themed game by LucasArts that lets you play as a bounty hunter in the most dangerous place in the Star Wars galaxy, which is the ruthless criminal underworld of Coruscant's level 1313,” said Matt Shell, LucasArts.

Aside from that, LucasArts wouldn't even talk about which devices it'll be playable on and when asked when it'll be out, we were simply told "in the future."
