Healthy Living: Music, simple moves can boost your fitness groove

A New York City DJ has created a type of music that aims to boost your performance in the gym while another fitness expert says simplicity can lead to even better results. Cheryl Wills filed the following report.

It turns out music really can make you move -- especially when you are on the run. Take, for example, the electrifying sounds crafted by Deekron, the Fitness DJ. His specially made CDs are called Motiontraxx. Deekron uses a special technique called Action Sync, that apparently improves athletic performance.

"I learned that by using the right music it can boost your performance by up to 15 percent," Deekron says. "They tell us things like, 'Before I found this music I couldn't even run a mile!'"

Sloan Luckie moves to a different beat. He is a fitness expert and the author of "Body Under Construction". He says specialized music and high tech gyms are cool, but sometimes the best workouts are the ones you learned in grade school.

"Be kinda patient with yourself. Some of us feel we have to do some draconian exercise," Luckie says.

Luckie also recommends a solid eight hours of sleep, which he says is a workout of sorts for your muscles.

"Growth hormone produces muscle mass and growth hormone is highest produced during sleep," Luckie says.

Music, jumping jacks and lots of muscle -- a simple way to stay in shape this fall.
