"You really are self conscious, it makes you feel ugly and depressing to deal with," said Erin Scully.

Scully has had to deal with acne since the fourth grade.

"I was definitely introverted and shy and I'd like to cover my face a lot," Scully said.

For the last 15 years, she's tried creams, lotions and makeup to cover her acne and now scars.

"Along my jaw line I have deep pock marks," said Scully.

Her latest treatment is called Photo Dynamic Therapy used to treat pimples, white heads and black heads. The specialized light is safe, no UVBs or UVA rays to be concerned about. A blue light targets the infectious aspect of the acne and the red light....

"The red light is actually known as a positive stimulator of cellular activity and so it goes and helps turn on the healing process. At also slows down enzymes to what causes break down of collagen and other structures in the skin," said Dr. Arthur Falk.

The treatment is simple, lie back and relax for about 15 minutes and let the warm light do its thing. Most anyone who doesn't have a history of photosensitivity can get the treatments.

It's recommended that you get about eight treatments and it cost about a $1,000. A price well worth it, says Erin.

"A lot better. It's really nice," said Scully.

Acne is hard to prevent. If you are passing up the greasy chips and chocolate thinking it's going to help, it won't.

"There really is no evidence that diet plays a strong role, it's probably a bunch of things happening at once. It is the influence of hormones that are coming on. It's an increase in oil production by the skin," Falk said.
