ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Local artists will be spreading the message to stop the violence at a local church this weekend.
Double Edge Entertainment in Elmira will present various musical performances as well as poetry Saturday afternoon. Most of the members grew up in the area and have noticed increased crime through the years.
Members say they want young kids to realize there are better things in life than relying on violence, which is why the group is trying to set up their own programs to help the surrounding community.
Chris Cade, the Double Edge Entertainment Manager said, "We're also trying to establish our own youth programs with performing arts. We know a lot of the kids are into the performing arts like dancing, rap and singing and things like that. We feel that if we have something more positive to focus on they won't be out on the streets committing those crimes."
The show will start at 4 p.m. with a $10 cover charge to raise money for local youth programs. It will be held at Shabach Tabernacle on Lake Street.
