STATEWIDE -- Power company NYSEG said it has been in extensive planning mode since Thursday. Crews are being brought in from several areas to pitch in.

"This is a difficult storm for NYSEG. NYSEG covers roughly 40 percent of the state geographically. If you look at a map of where we serve, we go from downstate, from Westchester, to the Canadian border, out to the Lockport-Buffalo area," said Jim Salmon, Regional and Outreach Dev. Mgr for NYSEG. "We're unfortunately having to prepare for outages in all of those areas. The forecasts look at this point that they'll hit the southeast part hardest, but we really have to be prepared for the entire state, and we are."

Salmon said high winds are not the only issue. The fact that many trees still have leaves on them can cause drains to be clogged if they are blown off. He said both of those issues together can create a bad combination.
