The Spa Spot: Day 20 wrap up
The Graveyard of Favorites claimed more victims on a wet Saturday as Saratoga 2012 reached the mid-point of the 40-day season. With five races moved from the grass, only two of 11 favorites were winners.
- Ramon Dominguez won two more races and has a meet-high 34. He is on course to break John Velazquez' single-season record of 65 winners set in a 36-day meet in 2004.
- Wise Dan captured the Fourstardave as the 3-2 favorite, but it didn't matter to Pick Six players. Even with a favorite in the final leg, no one hit the multi-race bet and there will be a $96,669 carryover into Sunday's pool.
- On-track attendance was off 20 percent to 26,782. With so many races moved from turf to dirt, a number of scratches and a program heavy with low-level claiming races, the on-track handle was down 18 percent to $4,162,354 and the total handle of $18,930,849 was off six percent from 2011.
