Training: Week 9: Starting Strength Training

Sunday, March 13, 2011

At the ski hill again. Same as usual. I get to ski for about two hours.

I'm not feeling super motivated to workout, but I force myself to the gym anyway. I swim pretty leisurely for about 30 minutes. It's nothing major, but at least I got to the gym and did something.

I'm stepping up my game today. I spend 30 minutes on the Elliptical trainer and I go about 3.2k. It's so tiring, but I'm feeling good about my work. Then I do a little bit of strength training. Mostly abdominal work. Now I'm starting to feel like I might be training for something.

Today is my most motivated day yet. I feel great.I go to the gym in the morning. First I hop on a stationary bike for 16 minutes and go 4.8k. I'm told transitioning from the bike portion of a triathlon to the running portion is one of the toughest parts. So after I finish the short bike, I use the elliptical trainer for 17 minutes and make it 1.92k. It feels so strange. It's really tough to make the transition. My legs don't want to do it! I push through though because I know I will benefit in the end. After all this, I still decide to do some strength training for a little bit. I feel great.

I finish my work up early, so for my lunch break, I run over to the downtown YMCA and get a small workout in. I again go on the elliptical for 13 minutes and go 1.6k. I also do a little strength training before the gym closes. I feel so great and motivated!

I felt great Thursday, but decided to be lazy and took Friday off. Today, I'm back at the ski hill. I'm feeling good.
