CICERO, N.Y. - Liverpool's Za'Von Watkins set a new New York standard at the state Track and Field Championships Friday at Cicero-North Syracuse High School by winning the 800 meters in 1:50.78.

Watkins, holder of 11 sectional records in middle distance running, ran in Friday's 800 event for the third straight year. From the crack of the gun, the Liverpool senior was out of the shoot ahead of everyone else.

He would end up never looking back, leading after one lap and cruising through the final stretch up by two seconds over the second place follower.
