8 Weeks to 70.3 Relay

8 Weeks to 70.3 Relay

Tuesday, May 1, 2012
I took Monday completely off from any working out. I'm still not feeling up to running today, so I just put in a swim workout. It's relatively easy. It's just a time trial for the 70.3 swim distance. It takes me just about 38 minutes to do a 2000 yard (80 lengths of a 25 yard pool). It wasn't bad. I didn't really push myself too hard. I'd like to bring the time down to 35 minutes for the actual race. It will take some practice and work because times are usually slower in open water.

It's my first day back running since the half marathon and man does it feel strange. I think my legs are still revolting against me. I take it really easy and run a slow pace for 30 minutes.

I do manage to fit in a swim workout. I swim for about 40 minutes at a medium intensity. I do 6 x 300s with 20 seconds rest. The third and sixth 300 were fast, the other two were easy.

I'm at my run group today where I receive plenty of congratulations for my race. It feels great to have such an awesome group support me. My legs are still angry and not working too well. I complete the first two sets of 60-90-30s with 90 seconds rest, but my shin and knee start to bother me, so I take the last one easy.

I'm back with Lisa's Tri training group today. It is seriously intense. We do a 5 mile loop of hills around Green Lakes. When I was pedaling up the hill on Pierson, my shoe popped out of my clip and I couldn't get it back in, so I had to walk the rest of the hill. When we got to the back entrance of Green Lakes, the hill was crazy intense. I kept thinking it was over and it kept going. I did my best to ride most of it, but I couldn't finish the last quarter. I had to walk the last bit. It was really, really tough. Thank goodness I'm not doing the Green Lakes tri!

After the bike, we did a 30 minute run with some functional training mixed in with pushups, dips and step-ups. The functional training is still tough, but I know it is helping me.

I join a woman from the Thursday run group and some of her friends for an early morning ride. We ride the flat portion of the Green Lakes Course at a pretty easy pace. I feel pretty good. It doesn't seem as tough as last week when I did the flatter portion.

Then we do a run around both Lakes, which is about 3.1 miles. And the people I run with are fast! I normally run at a 12-13 minute mile pace on my daily runs. But we finished the whole loop in 35 minutes! It's funny looking back because that was my time for my first 5k and I was dying then. I was still dying a bit now, but I wasn't even in a race and I was able to keep that pace. That makes me feel pretty good. It was really tiring, but I'm glad I went out with the group because I probably wouldn't have done anything else if I wasn't with the group.

We played a softball game today which was surprisingly close in score. We still lost be we held our own. After the game, I ran for 30 minutes at an easy pace.
