County executive says pictures don't tell whole story of Utica

UTICA, N.Y. -- The spotlight is once again shining on the City of Utica for some less than flattering reasons.
It's just months after the city was proclaimed a "junk hole" by a Watertown DJ and then ranked in the bottom ten of a Gallup poll of cities residents thought were improving.
Now a pictorial called "Utica Struggles" that appeared on the Albany Times Union's website was also picked up by USAToday.com.
County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. said at the unveiling of Union Station renovations that the blight in the pictures is something most Upstate communities are experiencing and there's more to the city.
"I think when you tell a story, you have to tell the whole story and the other part of the story is this. The other part of the story is the Stanley Theater, Munson Williams, Murnane Field, Rome Honor America Days," said Picente.
A member of the Downtown Utica Development Association has put together a site for residents to submit photos showing the positive side of the city.
