Oxley appears in court
An Ogdensburg man accused of beating another man to death with a baseball bat was in court Friday morning.
Wayne Oxley is accused of killing Bernie Trickey, Jr. late last month. The prosecution called several witnesses, including Oxley's neighbor, his neighbor's 13-year-old son, and the boy's friend. One boy testified he saw Oxley hitting his front porch with what appeared to be a bat. The other boy said he saw Oxley walking in the direction of Trickey's home with something in his hand.

"Well, unlike what the defense attorney said I think we had some direct evidence today of Mr. Oxley's involvement in Mr. Trickey's death, but what we tried to do today was basically fill in the whole picture of his state of mind that evening, the motive that I wasn't going to get into, but Mr. Manning got into, so we fleshed that out. I think what we did was showed with the evidence that we've got the right guy," said acting District Attorney Gary Miles.
The case will now go before a grand jury.
Oxley is being held at the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of bail.
