CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Chemung County Fairgrounds was transformed into a kid's paradise Saturday. Huge inflatable slides and mazes, games and activities, a clown and concerts made it a great day for children of all ages.

They all seemed to have their own favorite activity, but let's be honest; Strong Kids Safe Kids is a completely free event each year, so this might be more of a paradise for parents!

“Knowing to the fact that how bad the economy is so bad right now, it really helps the parents out as well," said Howard Mundy, a parent from Elmira.

“If it was a lot of money to get in we wouldn't be here. You know, so it was nice that we could come and have a good day together," said Liz Perez, a parent from Big Flats.

All these kids are out here, it looks like they're have a blast jumping around in the inflatable, taking part in all the activities and games, but this is called Strong Kids Safe Kids and there is a huge emphasis on safety as well.

All the fire and law enforcement agencies in the county were in attendance, but it was a much more relaxed atmosphere than usual for them.

“The majority of the time we're dealing with people it's in an official capacity. And it's just a lot of fun to be able to come and play with the kids and show them that, you know, we're parents and we have children just the same and we can have a good time too," said Sgt. Sharon Moyer from the Elmira Police Department.

They spent their day teaching the kids and parents about bike safety, fire safety and just safety in general, and everyone seemed to appreciate it.

“I feel great that there's people that want to actually teach kids how to be safe and strong," said Zachary Rice of Ithaca.

“I think it's good. Keep the kids safe and stuff. Help them out, give them stuff to do," said Simone Williams.

Organizers of the event say they hope that every family who came learned something about all the activities and agencies in the community whose goal is to help kids.

With school right around the corner, every student in attendance was also given the chance to earn free supplies to help ease the burden of buying them.
