SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There's no question, spring weather leads to spring cleaning.
"We have an early start on spring. We thought instead of just waiting for Earth Day to get everybody fired to attack the winter debris and everything that we'd start early, seeing we had a good reason to do that," said Chuck McFadden, director for Downtown Committee of Syracuse.
That reason is 30,000 hoops fans who will be making their way to Syracuse later this week. Because of that, dozens of volunteers spent the day Saturday cleaning up various areas throughout the city.
Winter's exit has given them a jump start on clearing up the litter the snow left behind. Folks didn't mind giving up part of their weekend to help spruce things up.
"It's part of your civic duty, civic pride to make sure your city, your town looks as good as it can possibly look. And also with a wonderful day and season we've had right now, it's an early spring, so why not come out and enjoy the weather," said Paco Valle, a volunteer from Clay.
And while making things look good is important, it's also a good idea to let visitors know what to do while they're here. For that, the city's visitors bureau has created these destination brochures.
"Our focus is really, get them to the dome and back, but not have them just stay in the hotel room or the dome, but really experience what Syracuse has to offer," said Tracy Kegebein from the Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau.
All while enjoying their stay along the way.
Both Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Minor and Department Public Works officials are asking city residents to do their part and clean up around their homes.
