ALBANY, N.Y. -- It was a somber ceremony at the Empire State Plaza in Albany as EMS personnel from across the state honor fellow first responders who died in the line of duty.
The names of three paramedics were added to the New York State EMS Memorial on Wednesday. Mark Davis of Jefferson County, Richard Quigley of Putnam County and Louis Flury of Erie County joined 36 other EMS workers whose names are inscribed there.
Several members of the state Legislature were in attendance, as well as the families of the men being honored.
The mother of paramedic Mark Davis echoed many family members, saying her son died the way he lived - helping others.
"It helps," said Marsha Dickinson. "You know, when you see everyone standing up and caring, just like we would want them to do, it does, there's a lot of closure to that."
The memorial was dedicated six years ago.
