Cornell withdraws recognition of fraternity

By: Web Staff

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell University has withdrawn recognition of the fraternity where a student was found unconscious and later died last month.

The university says Sigma Alpha Epsilon members failed to call for medical assistance after 19-year-old George Desdunes was found unconscious in the library of the house on February 25th.

Cornell officials have suspended Sigma Alpha Epsilon for five years. Members must vacate their house by March 31st, but the university has made campus housing available for any of the students who cannot find housing.

The Ithaca Police Department, New York State and Cornell Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Desdunes' death.
