ITHACA, N.Y. -- Thursday was move-out day for dozens of Cornell students, whether they wanted to or not. About 40 students packed up and left the building by the end of Thursday.
The university ordered the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house vacated and the fraternity shut down after the death of 19-year-old sophomore George Desdunes last month. Desdunes was found unresponsive in the house and later died. University officials said they received information during the investigation that the fraternity had violated the school's alcohol policy. Officials said Desdunes was provided alcohol while in the care of other members of the fraternity, who failed to call for medical help after recognizing his condition.
The frat is suspended both by Cornell and the national headquarters for at least five years. Fraternity members declined to speak with us. Police are still investigating the death.
