BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A local health organization is making a huge donation to relief efforts in Japan.

Southern Tier HealthLink will give $82,000 to the group "AmeriCares" which delivers medicines, supplies and critical relief to hospitals and evacuation centers in the impact zone. All of that money was actually raised online in a virtual world known as Second Life.

Organizers sold horses they call 'Amaretto Breedables' for $4 apiece to people who play, work and live in the online society. And believe it or not, they sold more than 19,000 of them!

Going with the virtual world theme, we spoke with the organizer's avatar to explain how this whole thing works.

"There are fundraiser that go on all the time. Not all of them raise this amount of money but they are equally important. A lot of them not only raise money, but they raise awareness," said Panacea Luminos.

Southern Tier HealthLink is planning another fundraiser in the virtual world this summer. That one will be for the Relay for Life.
