NEW YORK STATE – Friday, State Senator Patty Ritchie introduced a bill that would charge anyone convicted of killing an on-duty emergency responder with first degree murder. Now, Ritchie has started an online petition on her website for people to show support and help get the bill passed.

It's named Mark's Law, after Mark Davis, the Cape Vincent EMT who was shot to death while responding to a call for help back in 2009. Ritchie wants people who murder first responders and firefighters to have the same life without parole punishment as anyone who kills a police officer or court official.

The law still allows for an emotional disturbance defense, but Ritchie says the law sends a message.
