ESSEX COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Binghamton University student dies while hiking in the Adirondacks. Matthew Potel, 22, of Croton-on-Hudson was leading seven students on a hike of Mount Colden Friday.

Potel was trying to help a student cross a steep ravine when he fell about 25 feet down the gorge, and died from head injuries.

Potel was in his senior year at BU, and was co-president of the University's Outdoors Club.
