UTICA, N.Y. -- The Utica City School Board is facing a budget gap that could result in several massive cuts for the upcoming year.
Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi wrote a letter to Governor Cuomo this week outlining the troubles and asking for more state aid. The Assemblyman's letter highlighted the cuts the district is considering making if they don't receive more assistance.
Brindisi says the district would need to let go about 150 full time teaching and teaching assistant positions. He also says that full-day kindergarten would need to be changed to half-day and some alternative education and extracurricular education programs could be cut entirely.
The letter asks Cuomo to use about $200 million from the High Performance Grant Program to restore funding to the state's school districts.
