UTICA, N.Y. -- The Oneida County Board of Legislators may be about to shrink. After much debate Wednesday afternoon, the board voted to reduce its number of members by six.

The move was listed by the board's republican caucus as one of its cost-saving goals for the new year. Cutting the amount of legislators from 29 to 23 is expected to save the cash-strapped county about $60,000 a year.

The final say on the plan will be left to residents, however. Legislators say the move will be put up to a public vote in November.
