BROOME COUNTY -- Alexis Rolston doesn't mind shaving her head.

"They can make four wigs out of it,” said Alexis Rolston, Binghamton resident. “They shaved the rest."

She's just one of many people at Binghamton University who went under the clippers to donate their hair to Locks of Love. Eight years ago, she lost her mom Patricia to cancer.

"She came to me with the idea she wanted to do it. I had to support it. She watched her mother go through it, she wanted to do it to honor her mom,” said Bob Rolston, Binghamton Resident.

His daughter added, "I was doing this because my mom went through chemotherapy before she passed away. So I wanted to raise money for people who are going through this."

She signed up for the St. Baldrick's fundraiser over a month ago and since then has raised nearly $1,300 for children diagnosed with cancer.

"If more people do this, maybe we can find the cure for cancer,” said Rolston.

Her father added, "She's a strong-willed girl, that's all I know. Follows in her mom's footsteps."

The event was sponsored by students groups on the BU campus. So far they've raised over $11,000 and hope to raise more.

"We're still collecting donations at the table and a week after the event we can keep collecting,” said Kate Price, event organizer.

Many people said the event wasn't about the hair they lost, instead it was about showing their support and giving to someone who truly deserves it.

"Feels good in your heart, as long as it's for a good cause, it's not a big deal to shave your head,” said Joe Bonaldi, Freshman at BU. “It is just a little bit of what they're going through."
