Man stabbed in Lansing

TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Tompkins County Sheriff's office is looking into what sparked an attack that put a Groton man in the hospital.

Deputies say Dana Houghtling, 40, stabbed Jeff West, 31, at a home in the Town of Lansing Sunday night.

West was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.

Witnesses told police that Houghtling had taken off in his car. He was later spotted near the intersection of VanOstrand and Newman roads and taken into custody.

Investigators say they're not releasing more details about what happened or a possible motive, but they do believe that the two men knew each other prior to the assault.
