Wanted fugitive caught in Oswego County
SCHROEPPEL, N.Y. -- A fugitive wanted in Onondaga County is arrested after leading police on a chase in Oswego County.
Police tried to stop a car on Route 12 in the Town of Schroeppel Friday night, but they say the driver, Christopher Vanetten, 37, of Kirkville, failed to stop his vehicle and led police on a chase into Phoenix. They say Vanetten then got out of his car and tried to run, but he was caught by police.
Vanetten was wanted on several warrants for Grand Larceny and Fraud in Onondaga County. He's now also charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations. Vanetten was sent to the Oswego County Jail without bail.
Also arrested was Christina Pontello, 39. Police say Pontello was a passenger in the car and drove away in the vehicle after Vanetten tried to flee. Pontello was later found in Baldwinsville and charged with obstructing governmental administration.
