Graduation rates down in Binghamton, Elmira
SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. -- The latest graduation numbers have been released by the State Education Department and statewide, there's reason for optimism, but in the Southern Tier's two largest school districts, numbers are down.
For the class of 2011, only 57.9 percent of students in the Binghamton City School District graduated on time. And in the Elmira City School District, that number was 62.9 percent.
As you can see, both schools are down more than four percent from last year.
You should know, these numbers don't include the students who graduated in August of 2011 or those who finished school at a later date.
Statewide, 74 percent of students graduated on time. Many of the other Southern Tier school districts did surpass that mark.
