The murder trial of Peter Wlasiuk continues in Chenango County. Wlaskiuk is accused of murdering his wife, Patricia, in 2002 and then staging a car accident to make it look as though she drowned in Guilford Lake. This is his third trial for her death. Our Melissa Kakareka was in court and tells us what happened during day three of testimony.

CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- Members of the jury continue to receive new evidence in the murder trial of Peter Wlasiuk. He is accused of killing his wife, Patricia, more than 10 years ago in the Town of Guilford.

Six witnesses took the stand during day three of testimony Monday, including several people who assisted in the recovery of Patricia's body in the early morning hours of April 3, 2002.

Three of those witnesses say they performed CPR on Patricia. They testified that her skin was a bluish gray color when she was pulled from the water in Guilford Lake and say that her breath smelled of alcohol.

One of those witnesses also observed that Patricia's hair was matted with burdock plants.

Another witness who performed CPR said that Patricia's chest immediately collapsed upon compression as though her ribs were broken, something that could have happened during CPR or through another cause. That witness also examined Peter Wlasiuk on the night of the incident and says he displayed no signs of hypothermia or visible injuries, despite claiming that he too was in the vehicle when it went into the lake. She says Wlasiuk seemed to be faking his emotions and his condition.

The defense maintains that Patrica's death was an accidental drowning and has challenged the ability of several witnesses to recall details from the night of the incident. More witnesses will be called to the stand on Tuesday.

Wlasiuk has been convicted of his wife's murder twice before, but both of those convictions were overturned.
