Former corrections officer charged
SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. -- A former corrections officer has pleaded not guilty in the assault of an inmate in 2010.
David Monell, a former corrections officer at the Tioga County Jail, was formally charged Monday with Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law.
In June 2010, Monell allegedly assaulted inmate David Coffey causing him bodily injury. If convicted, Monell faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
