CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- Day four of witness testimony is complete in Chenango County.

Members of the jury heard from five new witnesses as they try to determine whether or not Peter Wlasiuk is guilty of murdering his wife, Patricia, back in 2002.

The prosecution claims that Wlasiuk murdered Patricia at their Oxford home and then staged a car accident to make it look as though she drowned in Guilford Lake, but the defense says the victim's death was an accidental drowning.

On Tuesday, one acquaintance of the Wlasiuks recalled a conversation she overheard in 2001 where Peter discussed how to stage a theoretical drowning accident.

An employee of Sidney Hospital also testified that Peter seemed eager to have his wife's organs donated after her death, saying he "had to get her body cremated right away."

A deputy from the sheriff's office also read Peter's initial deposition from the night of the incident where he said that Patricia was driving the truck and swerved off the road to avoid hitting a deer.

That witness also identified a piece of burdock bush taken from the Wlasiuk’s yard, a detail the prosecution is hoping can explain why pieces of burdock were found on Patricia's body after her death.

More witnesses will be called to the stand on Wednesday as the trial continues.
