Emergency notification siren malfunction

OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- One of the emergency notification sirens surrounding the nuclear power plants in Scriba inadvertently sounded Friday.

Oswego County Emergency Management officials say something caused a siren near the intersection of Middle Road and Route 104 to go off at about 5:40 p.m.

Officials stress that there was not an emergency at any of the three nuclear power plants.

The other sirens in the system are functioning properly and backup measures are in place while the siren system is being repaired.

The cause for the sounding is under investigation.
