Baby falls out third story window
TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A baby is recovering in the hospital after falling 14 feet out of a window in Ithaca.
Police say the 16-month-old baby girl fell from a third story window at the Fall Haven Apartments on Thursday.
According to investigators, the child's mother left the room to fix a bottle when the baby fell through an open screened window that was less than a foot above the floor.
When emergency crews arrived, friends and neighbors were helping the baby, who was conscious, crying and alert.
The child was flown to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment.
Police continue to investigate the incident, but they say the fall appears to be accidental.
