BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Operations at Willow Point Nursing Home are back to normal after a small fire.
Officials say the fire began shortly after 8:15 a.m. Friday when rags in a dryer caught on fire in the laundry room. The Vestal Fire Department responded within minutes and put the fire out with dry chemicals.
No one was injured, but 200 residents in the south wing of the facility were relocated to other parts of the building.
Officials say the quick response of staff and emergency crews helped keep residents safe.
"To that, I have to say to our employees again, on how quickly they reacted when they smelled smoke, one was calling 911 while the other was calling 911, so it has to do with that and the response time of our Vestal Fire Department," said Broome County Executive Debbie Preston.
The fire was contained the laundry room, preventing any major damage to the building.
