OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego Common Council has tabled a resolution that would have prevented buses that transport college students on weekend nights from operating on side streets.

Nearly a dozen community members spoke out during Monday night's public hearing about the so-called "drunk buses."

Two bus companies pick college students up on SUNY Oswego's campus and bring them to downtown bars and house parties. Some residents are calling on city officials to keep the buses out of neighborhoods, in hopes of cutting down disruptive parties.

If passed, the law will restrict the buses to main streets like Bridge and West First.

Councilors say they need more time to research the issue before voting, but they hope to find a resolution before school is back in session on August 27th.
