A few late night thunderstorms and high winds led to significant damage across the region. One of the areas hardest hit includes an area known as Godfrey Point, just north of Oneida Lake. As our Brad Vivacqua tells us, although damage was limited, it still created a big mess.

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Just before midnight, thunderstorms and high winds made their way to the north shore of Oneida Lake.

"It was about 11:40. I heard a noise that sounded like a train. It was roaring, I jumped out of bed. It was a flash of lightning and then a big, big noise,” said Minna Ringrose, who lives in Vienna.

That noise was the sound of trees and utility poles hitting the pavement and property in an area known as Godfrey Point. Minna Ringrose has lived on Drive 9 for 42 years.

"I mean there's wires laying on these cars all along the road. You couldn't get out I mean we're stranded here. We have no power, so we don't know how long it's going to be," said Ringrose.

In total, about 20 trees and a few utility poles toppled onto the street on top of power lines, roofs, and cars. The high winds also tipped over some boats and a dock.

"I have a monster tree that I have no idea how we're going to get it out. I lost a tarp to the top of my boat but I mean it's nothing compared to some of these guys with their docks and their boats flopped upside down, but thank goodness everybody is okay too," said Judd Vann, who lives in Vienna.

In addition to being okay, everyone is thankful the damage was limited. Still, this is one storm that made a big mess and caused quite a scare.

"I've never ever, ever in my life, no matter where I've lived, seen anything like this," said Ringrose.
