UTICA, N.Y. -- The people dealing with bath salts and synthetic marijuana most in Mohawk Valley met for a panel discussion on the drugs' use Tuesday.

The Center for Family Life and Recovery hosted more than 100 people at the Radisson in Utica to give a comprehensive view of synthetic drug issues in the community. Presenters looked at the issue from multiple angles, from law enforcement to treatment issues of violent patients in hospitals.

The Center says they work to prevent drug use through prevention. Tuesday, they hoped to show the community the complex realities of solving the synthetic drug problem.

"This is really an opportunity to show the community that we recognize that it's a problem, we're not trying to sweep it under the rug. There are a lot of people working really hard to make a change, and we're all working together and that's the important part," CFLR Prevention Council Coordinator Samantha McCarthy said.

They also say they hoped to address some of the myths surrounding the drugs to help people recognize them.
