State and county officials give update on storm aftermath
Thousands are still without power in the Southern Tier after the storms ripped through Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service confirms a tornado did touch down in the Elmira area, along with another in Pennsylvania. Meantime, officials are getting their first look at the damage.
Mike Smith, the Chemung County Emergency Services director, gave an update Friday morning:
