BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- In just two days, the Otsiningo Park in Binghamton will be filled with thousands of community members and visitors attending the 28th annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally.
Last September, the park and event equipment were heavily damaged by flooding from Tropical Storms Irene and Lee. But thanks to the Broome County Parks Department, several repairs were made and the park will once again be ready for the event.
Planning and preparations for the weekend-long fest took close to a year and almost 400 volunteers.
"The tents went up last Friday and we've been prepping all our equipment off site for several weeks now. So we actually started planning this event about seven months ago," Hope Tent Event Coordinator Jim Byron said.
One addition to the park since the flooding is a brand new bathroom facility that can be used year-round.
