Utica crime stats show mixed results
UTICA, N.Y. -- It had been a year of reversing trends when it comes to crime in Utica. The police department has released crime statistics from the first six months of the year, and while violent crime dropped 14 percent over the last year, property crimes are way up.
The report shows 266 burglaries have been reported. That is 41 more than last year. There have also been 173 more larcenies, and more than a dozen motor vehicle thefts.
The violent crime statistics included murder, rape, robbery, and assault, all of which either remained the same or declined. Utica has seen no homicides and only two shooting-related injuries this year.
