BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Chenango River was filled with a lot of rubber ducks on Saturday as the Humane Society celebrates its 2nd annual Duck Derby. The event raises money for the Humane Society to help 150 animals currently in their care.
Along with the derby, there was live music, food, and games. Owners of the top three winning ducks received cash prizes. Organizers said they look forward to the event because it means a lot of fun for humans a lot of help for the animals.
"It's very rewarding being able to hold an event like this. It's nice seeing people have a nice time. It's a family friendly environment, you see a lot of people who have already adopted animals and want to adopt again. And, it's really rewarding helping a lot of animals in the community that needs a place to stay until they find their forever home," said Karen Matson, Binghamton Humane Society Executive Director.
The Humane Society said it hopes to raise between $20,000 to $25,000 by the end of the day.
