BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Organizers tout it as "elbow to elbow racing" and "NASCAR on two wheels."
The 29 annual Chris Thater Memorial Race Weekend is set for this Saturday and Sunday. Officials from Broome County Stop-DWI laid out the details for this year's weekend of events Wednesday morning.
Organizers say there is something for everyone, whether you stop and listen to one of the 20 local bands performing in this year's music festival or enjoy browsing the vendor tents at the expo.
The 5K run is Sunday and of course, the bike races bring elite racers from all over the world and our region as well.
"We have the honor in Binghamton of having one of the top 20 races in the nation here with the top pros. And that includes our local rider, Adam Farabaugh from Owego, who is the newly crowned Elite National Criterium Champion," said Jeff Poulin, Chris thater Race Cycling Director.
The event is named in honor of Chris Thater, a Binghamton resident and avid cyclist who was killed by a drunk driver in 1983.
The Chris Thater race was started as a simple memorial ride that year and has expanded to its current format.
