After a day off from witness testimony, the murder trial of Veronica Taft resumed in Broome County Court Wednesday. Taft is charged in connection with the death of her son, Lyric, who was found beaten and unresponsive at Taft's former home in Binghamton back in December of 2010. BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Four new witnesses appeared in Broome County Court Wednesday as the prosecution tries to prove that Veronica Taft beat and killed her two-year-old son, Lyric.

A nurse who was working at Lourdes Hospital at the time of Lyric's death testified that she updated Taft of Lyric's status in the emergency waiting room, but said she found it odd that Taft wouldn't take her hands out of her sweatshirt during their conversations.

Three detectives from the Binghamton Police Department also testified about the investigation.

The defense intensely questioned Investigator Jeffery Wagner about Taft's former boyfriend, Charles Pratt, who was babysitting on the night of Lyric's death and who Wagner says was considered a suspect in the beginning.

The jury also watched a DVD of Taft's second interrogation with police after Lyric's death. In it, police ask Taft whether or not she had anything to do with Lyric's death, which she denies.

The video also shows Taft crying when police show her photos of Lyric's body and she asks investigators whether or not the toddler suffered.

In the interrogation video, police also suggest to Taft that it was Pratt who beat Lyric. Taft replies that Pratt was good to her children but later tells police she wants Pratt to pay for what he did.

The defense says no decision has been made as to whether or not Taft will take the stand.

Court will not be in session on Thursday but will resume on Friday. Testimony is expected to last into next week.
